Roles and Responsibilities
The Lund University Digital Archaeology Laboratory (DARKLab) is structured around a core group of staff funded by a mix of sources, including Lund University central administration, the Joint Faculties of Theology and Humanities, as well as external funding from private foundations and government agencies. This core group ensures the laboratory's day-to-day operations and long-term strategic initiatives. DARKLab is part of the Department of Archaeology and Ancient History at Lund University, utilizing the administrative infrastructure of the Department. Additionally, in-kind contributions in the form of time, supported financially by the Department of Archaeology and Ancient History with Faculty funding, are dedicated by members of the department to the lab.
DARKLab's Management Board plays a crucial role in overseeing the operational aspects of the laboratory.
DARKLab's Advisory Board is drawn from the Leading Group of the Department of Archaeology and Ancient History at Lund University.
Access governance
Access to DARKLab is granted according to the principles described in the Access & Use Policy.
Decisions regarding feasibility, prioritisation, safety, and scheduling are made by the DARKLab Director in consultation with the laboratory staff.
Responsibilities
The Director is responsible for overall governance, access decisions, coordination, and compliance with Lund University guidelines.
The technical staff is responsible for safe operation of equipment, acquisition planning, and data handling procedures.
Administrative support for invoicing and external contracts is provided through the Department of Archaeology and Ancient History.
Financial management
Invoices and financial administration are managed by the department’s finance officers.
