ArchLab Takes Heritage to New Heights

🚀 ArchLab goes up in the air: our second pilot with Lund Cathedral
Last week the ArchLab team carried out its second pilot, in collaboration with Lund Cathedral and the Lund University Historical Museum.
This time, we faced a challenge high above the ground: recording an architectural decoration located on the left aisle of the cathedral. To reach it, we worked from a boom lift, which meant hours of training and testing before we could even start scanning.
The captured data will now be processed through ArchLab’s integrated digital workflow, turning raw scans into structured 3D data. This pipeline will allow us to:
Share the dataset openly,
Publish individual sculptures via our web 3D platforms,
Prepare the models for 3D printing and manual colouring by conservators at Lund University Historical Museum.
The 3D models will serve as a basis for studying and reconstructing the original colours of the cathedral’s sculptures and capitals, advancing ArchLab’s mission to connect high-resolution documentation with the scientific exploration of cultural heritage.
A warm thank you to Lund Cathedral and the Lund University Historical Museum for the possibility to collaborate with this project!
This is just one of the many possibilities opened by the Lund University Digital Archaeology Laboratory (DARKLab) and the ArchLab infrastructure.
