Description of the tutorials

These two tutorials explore how to work with ortho projections in RealityCapture and generate a report. The first series of video tutorials focus on how to create arbitrary ortho projections within your project and AI classify.

These tools are essential for producing accurate, high-resolution 2D outputs from your 3D models, suitable for mapping, documentation, and GIS integration like image mosaics, Digital Surface Models (DSMs), Digital Terrain Models (DTMs).

What are DEM, DSM, and DTM?

DEM (Digital Elevation Model) is a general term for any digital representation of surface elevation.

DSM (Digital Surface Model) includes all objects on the surface, such as buildings, vegetation, and other structures—essentially the "first return" surface.

DTM (Digital Terrain Model) represents the bare ground surface, with objects like trees and buildings removed, offering a clearer view of the underlying terrain.

Tutorial 01 - Ortho projections

1/5 - AI Classify

Classification involves grouping the model’s vertices into distinct categories—a prerequisite for building a Digital Terrain Model, which is subsequently produced when creating an orthographic projection.

2/5 - Ortho image

RealityCapture allows you to generate custom orthographic projections. Each projection is saved within the project and includes color, depth, and altitude layers. You can create and export geo-referenced ortho-photo maps, image mosaics, Digital Surface Models (DSMs), Digital Terrain Models (DTMs), side projections, and more.

4/5 - Creating and Exporting a DTM

5/5 - Generating cross sections

Tutorial 02 - Generating Reports

This is the second of two tutorials on working with ortho projections and project documentation in RealityCapture. In this part, we focus on how to generate reports—an essential step for evaluating, validating, and presenting the results of your photogrammetric project.
